"things
lost" is an assemblage installation with video taking elements
from the different aspects of the the site. The building we used for
the exhibition is part of a complex of buildings including the Romadonovsky
railway station. Although the station itself is now unsafe to use, it
is a striking place with a lot of history in the city. I imagined the
station and the industrial area buzzing with life, imagined the movement
of bodies along the waterfront, the barge-haulers and the crowds waiting
for board the trains to all parts of Russia. Now only traces remain,
swaying slightly in the breeze.
The accompanying
video, "The River" re-enacts the ancient cyclical movement
of death and rebirth through water, the basic elements of nature which
remain despite other change. As we worked onsite, the power of the river
became more and more important to me.
